ALIGN AND FLOW YOGA
Align and Flow Yoga is an eclectic blend of Iyengar Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga, a fusion of static alignment and dynamic vinyasa, with a touch of restorative. It is a somatically oriented, anatomical approach to Yoga, based on principles from the Krishnamacharya lineage. Align and Flow is an exploration of how functional anatomy and applied philosophy unite to inspire a direct experience of body, mind, and breath integration.
YOGA TEACHER
I discovered Yoga in 1995 when during my psychology studies I intuitively felt drawn to explore eastern philosophy as a compliment to my western understanding of the human mind. With over twenty years of experience in both Iyengar Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga, I have a comprehensive understanding of the traditional techniques in the Krishnamacharya lineage, and an ability to apply this knowledge in an integrative way.
Samkhya and the Roots of Yoga

Samkhya and the Roots of Yoga

Samkhya is the foundation philosophy of Yoga and Ayurveda. Rooted in the knowledge of the Upanishads (800BC), the concepts of Samkhya are explored in many ancient Yoga texts, including the Bhagavad Gita (400BC) and the Yoga Sutras (250BC). Samkhya philosophy developed around 600BC.
What is Yoga?

What is Yoga?

Yoga means “union”, derived from the Sanskrit root “yui” which means “to yoke” or “to join”. Yoga is a collection of spiritual practices designed to unite our body, mind and breath for self-realisation. Yoga originated in India during the Vedic period, around 1500 BC.

Melanie is the best yoga teacher I have ever met in my life. There is beautiful logic in her classes: every movement has its purpose and connection with the next step. Melanie explains everything and really cares about everyone in the class. She has an incredible empathy and somehow she combines a very serious fundamental approach with cheerfulness. She creates such a space in the class, where everyone feels accepted and relaxed. Some people think that Iyengar yoga is a bit boring, but with Melanie you will forget about this stereotype. Yes, these classes are fundamental, very detailed, and a lot of props are used, but it feels like something that makes you practice more healthy and thoughtful, but not boring at all.If you are looking for a balanced physical activity, calm for an anxious mind, a stress-free challenge for yourself under the guidance of a kind, empathic, supportive teacher - then this studio is definitely for you.

Honestly, this is my first review... I am a passionate yoga lover. I was looking especially for an Iyengar teacher on Madeira. I found one: Mel. She is the best yoga teacher I ever met. Moreover, she is a Yogi from head to toe and she’s also my personal Guru.

Now its almost 6 months I go to Mel yoga classes, and I hope I will continue having this amazing possibility. Not only because I can see the changes on my body and its strength. Not only that the classes are thought in great flow and Mel is a true professional that makes you feel safe in her class but challenged at the same time. But most importantly for me (and I believe for many people that love yoga), Mel is a wonderful person that attracts her students not only with her knowledge, but also with her personality and aura. Thank You.Your desire is your destiny 🙂

Melanie is a fantastic teacher! I'm so grateful to have found her and to be able to practice with her.I appreciate her vast depth of knowledge and her generosity in sharing that knowledge and experience. In addition, she is respectful during this physical practice. She works hard to allow students to practice where they are, ensuring you go to the right place at the right pace. You can notice she loves her work and Yoga.I highly recommend Melanie.

I really enjoyed my private class with Melanie. She had prepared a specific class for my needs and she guided me with professionalism and kindness. She has a great knowledge on the anatomy and offers variations so it feels comfortable and safe for the body. The place is also very pleasant; it's easy to find and you can park easily. I will definitely continue to have private classes with Melanie! Highly recommended :-)Thank you so much dear Mel
