ALIGN AND FLOW YOGA
Align and Flow Yoga is an eclectic blend of Iyengar Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga, a fusion of static alignment and dynamic vinyasa, with a touch of restorative. It is a somatically oriented, anatomical approach to Yoga, based on principles from the Krishnamacharya lineage. Align and Flow is an exploration of how functional anatomy and applied philosophy unite to inspire a direct experience of body, mind, and breath integration.
YOGA TEACHER
I discovered Yoga in 1995 when during my psychology studies I intuitively felt drawn to explore eastern philosophy as a compliment to my western understanding of the human mind. With over twenty years of experience in both Iyengar Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga, I have a comprehensive understanding of the traditional techniques in the Krishnamacharya lineage, and an ability to apply this knowledge in an integrative way.
Samkhya and the Roots of Yoga

Samkhya and the Roots of Yoga

Samkhya is the foundation philosophy of Yoga and Ayurveda. Rooted in the knowledge of the Upanishads (800BC), the concepts of Samkhya are explored in many ancient Yoga texts, including the Bhagavad Gita (400BC) and the Yoga Sutras (250BC). Samkhya philosophy developed around 600BC.
What is Yoga?

What is Yoga?

Yoga means “union”, derived from the Sanskrit root “yui” which means “to yoke” or “to join”. Yoga is a collection of spiritual practices designed to unite our body, mind and breath for self-realisation. Yoga originated in India during the Vedic period, around 1500 BC.

Melanie is a dream yoga instructor. She is focused on every person doing yoga, truly cares about what the individual needs are! I love yoga , but have a few injuries, which I shared with her. Melanie was able to modify my flow even when there was a full class! Best yoga instructor ever!!

When I reached six weeks post-stroke, I needed more than physio or just gym. I needed muscle tone for stability, strength for movement, flexibility and balance and I chose yoga as the best means to work on all four. I wasn't able to drive and so Google guided me to Mel at Yogaflow who was within walking distance of my house.12 months later I ran the Two Oceans half marathon. Slowly, sure. But I did it. And for a 55 year old that the medics had said would never run again, I was elated. We kept going. And now three and a half years post-stroke, most people don't even know I was ever unable to stand unaided, let alone walk. I still catch myself turning too quickly, or getting panicked if it's too dark on an escalator. But every Tuesday and Friday, my 90 mins with Mel at Yogaflow continues to increase my tone, strength, flexibility and balance ... and it is pretty good for my soul as well!

If I could give Melanie more stars I would. She brings her Heart into each class she teaches, her Openness, Love and Dedication to the practice of Yoga Radiates from her and her students are Transformed.I am extremely blessed to have Melanie as my teacher. Each class with her is a magical moment of softening and opening not only into the physical practice of yoga, but also into the Oneness between all aspects of this mysterious Being that we are. Her deep knowledge of yoga comes from years and years of self practice and study, and you Know and Feel that you are in the presence of one who embodies what she teaches. This is clearly seen in the Love all her students have for her.If you are lucky enough to come across Melanie don't hesitate to sign up for her classes, you will be giving yourself a very special gift indeed.

Mel is such an inspiration and i have followed her classes with great pleasure for more than 10 years. The way Mel describes the most difficult poses in class with such detail and clarity is mind blowing. This was very important during the zoom classes which have been such a life saver for the last year and a half. I feel blessed to be a part of her yoga journey she has been making for such a long time.

This is not your average yoga class! It stimulates a deep journey of learning and self discovery. Classes are a well thought out mix of technical alignment, philosophy, yoga history, breathing and fun! Yogaflow is professional in every way, not only in very precise and concise teachings, but in administrative and the delivery of the online classes too. Everything works! I highly recommend this personal experience.
