Yogaflow is a small, boutique Yoga studio in the heart of the Atlantic ocean, on an island called Madeira, which means Wood. In Traditional Chinese Medicine the Wood element represents growth, expansion, and flexibility, and is associated with the Spring season. Here, on this beautiful island of Wood, I offer unique private and group Yoga classes. See the Yoga class price and schedule below. Monday at 18pm to 19:30pm – Yin Yoga: a functional style of Yoga that was originally practiced to prepare the body for seated meditation. The focus is on long held (3 to 6 mins) simple, passive Yoga postures that specifically target Yin tissues – our ligaments, bones, joints and fascia (which interconnects all parts of our body and wraps around our muscles, bones, organs, nerve cells). By gentle tension (stretching apart) and compression (pressing together) we stress the Yin tissues in a healthy way. Through the meridian lines in our fascia, that runs along our joints, this healthy stress of the Yin tissues is transferred to give vitality to our organs. Long held passive Yin style postures have scientifically been proven to benefit both our body and mind, by reducing inflammation and calming the nervous system. Deep exhale breaths as a tool for releasing physical and mental blockages is encouraged to inspire inner spaciousness. Various intensity options and alternatives are offered. All welcome. Suitable for beginners to advanced practitioners. No previous Yoga experience required. Come in your pyjamas if you like, its that chill:)
Wednesday at 18pm to 19:30pm & Friday at 11am to 12:30pm – Align & Flow Yoga: an eclectic style of Yoga that blends Iyengar, Ashtanga and Yin to create a fusion of alignment, slow vinyasa, and meditative stillness. The approach is somatically orientated and interoceptive. Yet strongly rooted in sensible anatomy and physiology that aspires to bridge over from aesthetic expression to functional exploration. The intention of Align & Flow is to overcome the rigidity and dogma of any particular Yoga system, while still retaining the core essence of the classic teachings in the Krishnamacharya lineage. Classes are adapted to offer various options and modifications. You are encouraged to listen to the wisdom of your own body, and choose what is best for you. Verbal cues and demonstrations are shared to inspire a coherent container with guidelines for efficacy and safety. All welcome. A little previous Yoga experience preferred. Complete beginners are recommended to start with Yin Yoga.

“I have had the pleasure and privilege of working with Melanie as my yoga teacher for the past year, and I cannot recommend her enough. I initially approached Melanie with severe shoulder issues, including frozen shoulder and tears, which left me unable to lift my arms overhead without significant pain. Her approach was nothing short of transformative.
Melanie’s deep knowledge of the body, drawn from Iyengar and other yoga modalities, coupled with insights from beyond yoga, has been invaluable. Through our private sessions, she skillfully guided me in creating more mobility, strengthening crucial muscles like my back and lats, and relieving tightness throughout my body, including in my back, neck, and hamstrings.
Beyond her technical expertise, Melanie’s compassion and insight have been a beacon of support during challenging times. Her sessions consistently lifted my spirits when frustration set in, showing me progress even when I felt broken. Each session with Melanie is a highlight of my week, not only for her exceptional skills but also for her presence, humor, and uplifting spirit.
Melanie’s dedication to her craft and her genuine care for her students are truly exceptional. She has made a profound impact on my journey to recovery and well-being. If you’re looking for a yoga teacher who combines profound wisdom with a warm, supportive presence, Melanie is without a doubt the one. She is a gift to Madeira, and I am extremely grateful to have her as one of my guides in this healing journey.” – Michael Deutch
